Charactah Account[]

Usagi Tsukino is a seemingly typical junior high school student whose life takes an extraordinary turn with the revelation of her true identity as Sailor Moon, a guardian destined to safeguard Earth. This discovery is precipitated by the arrival of her mentor and guide, Luna, who informs her of her lineage as the reincarnated Princess Serenity. Her ultimate destiny unfolds as she is to become Neo-Queen Serenity, ruling the world with grace and wisdom. Despite initial trepidation regarding her newfound responsibilities, Usagi evolves throughout the narrative from a somewhat spoiled and emotionally volatile young girl into a valorous warrior, embodying the virtues of courage and compassion.

Usagi's intrinsic nature is marked by kindness and an effusive cheerfulness, character traits that extend to her love for food, her close-knit circle of companions, and a steadfast commitment to prevent harm befalling others. This altruistic disposition often leads her to make self-sacrificial decisions, which can be both a testament to her strength of character and a source of potential vulnerability. Usagi is renowned for her deep-rooted belief in the inherent goodness of people, a conviction that shapes her interactions and informs her approach to conflict resolution.

Usagi's aversion to causing harm to innocents, even when they have been transformed into fearsome adversaries, is a recurring theme that underscores her moral compass. Instead, she is driven to seek redemptive paths, focusing on restoration rather than retribution. This unwavering commitment to the sanctity of life is a double-edged sword, serving as a reflection of both her core values and her potential for personal growth.

Throughout the series, Usagi's romantic inclinations are a noteworthy aspect of her character development. Initially, she succumbs to infatuations and entertains an array of whimsical daydreams involving various individuals, including the concept of marriage and idealized life scenarios. Nevertheless, her journey of self-discovery and maturation ultimately leads her to recognize Mamoru as her true soulmate, thereby focusing her romantic aspirations on him.

Trivia[]

  • In the original DiC English adaptation, the protagonist Usagi is referred to as "Serena," which is etymologically and phonetically analogous to "Serenity." It is noteworthy that during the early promotional phases by DiC and within the context of an unsuccessful live-action pilot, she was identified as "Victoria." Initially, Kodansha's English website also listed her name as "Celeste."
  • Within the narrative of the anime, Usagi is unique among the Inner Senshi for not being an active participant in the Three Lights fan club.
  • Kotono Mitsuishi, the esteemed voice actor who portrayed Usagi, experienced health issues during the production of episodes 44 to 50, leading to Kae Araki stepping in to provide the character's voice for that period. Araki went on to voice Chibiusa in subsequent productions. Notably, Mitsuishi later re-recorded Usagi's soliloquy from episode 46, and this revised segment has been made available for public viewing on YouTube.
  • Usagi's character has been depicted as inadvertently consuming alcohol, mistaking it for a non-alcoholic beverage such as punch, on two separate occasions. These incidents are documented in episodes 22 and 108 of the anime series, showcasing a more lighthearted and relatable side to her personality.
  • Usagi holds the distinction of being the sole character to appear in the entirety of the 200-episode series run and all three feature films.
